A community food assessment is about bringing together people and organizations to look at a broad range of food-related resources and concerns in order to give direction to actions that will improve food security in the community.

We invite you to join us in our efforts to ensure that all Saskatchewan citizens have safe, nourishing and affordable foods. Many things are already happening in our communities:

  • community gardens
  • collective & community kitchens
  • sharing of gardens with neighbourssenior3.jpg
  • family gardening
  • the creation of food directories such as LoFo, Moose Jaw & area,  Yorkton and area, the Organic Farm Directory,and many other  directories (forward the document or link to us)       
  • slow food dinners
  • school gardens 
  • cooking classes
  • Thought About Food workshops and Community Food Assessments have been conducted within the Province. FSS has trained facilitators available.
  • the development of organizations devoted to health and well being in our communities
  • and the growing interest among citizens in local foods

 *Thank you to all who attended our FSS 2010 AGM either in person or via teleconferencing in Saskatoon on November 22. We remind you to renew your personal or organization's membership for 2011 if you have not yet done so. We look forward to engaging our membership with upcoming planning initiatives this year. After our strategic planning day in May 2011 we are working towards releasing a plan to the membership later this year.
